I Have Nothing To Hide

A lot of people don't understand the consequences of posting things online, and believe they have "nothing to hide." What people don't realize is that our information can be looked up by so many different people, and can end up hurting us in various different ways. People need to be more careful about what information and sources they are putting online because it can come back to haunt them at anytime. I always had the idea in the back of my head that many people can see what I have online, but since I've been taking this class I have been very careful about everything. I understand that nothing can be deleted and I think that is extremely frightening. Also, the fact that the government has access to basically everything I do on the Internet really puts things into perspective for me. Others need to realize these points as well.

  1. I agree, many people have this attitude of "I don't care!" because the things they do online are innocent. However, they fail to realize that there's a very good chance that agencies like the NSA are tracking and monitoring their every day most basic conversations. Sure, I know I don't talk about anything too interesting in my conversations, but it's still unnerving to think that there's a chance they're being monitored and I think that's something most people aren't aware of. Otherwise, I don't think they'd have such a careless attitude.

  2. I also agree with the fact that Americans do not understand the consequences. People just think "hey, it doesn't matter if people find things out about me. Privacy is dead anyways." While privacy is slowly disappearing, the fact that anyone can look up basically anything about you is a scary thought. It is frightening to think that anything you type in on Google, someone could be watching your every move. Even though, most likely, your not searching anything bad, it is still in the back of your head that someone could be monitoring this.

  3. I agree with this blog, I feel like many people don't necessarily understand the implications of posting their personal information online. it goes beyond data mining for security reasons, its advertisers and businesses that are after the real estate in our heads and on our homescreens. It kinda creeps me out but I honestly think that this is the future of advertising. It's sort of inevitable, technology has come such a slong way and its going to keep coming.
